Desktop Background will not display pictures

During a recent Printer Driver update I lost the ability to customize the Desktop Background.

I am running Windows 7 Professional on a 64 bit machine

When i right click and select Personalize i am brought to the standard page where i select Desktop Background. In that page i can hit the drop down box and select "solid colors" and i can change from black to whatever solid color i want.

However if i attempt to select an image, whether it be a windows image or a personal picture image i select the image and click save changes and nothing updates on the desktop. I can also double click on saved Themes and nothing updates on the desktop.

I have run Maleware scans and actually removed a control panel Hijack, see below:

Malewarebytes log:
Registry Values Infected:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\ForceClassicControlPanel (Hijack.ControlPanelStyle) -> Value: ForceClassicControlPanel -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

even with removing this and browsing through the registry i cannot display pictures. I cannot determine what the 3rd party printing company did when they uploaded the drivers, i have since uninstalled these drivers and pictures still wont display.

Opening a picture and right clicking on it to select "set as desktop background" i get an error message that says: "this image cant be set as wallpaper. An internal error occured."

Im not much of a computer guru so if anyone has any ideas let me know in a detailed but simple description. Thanks everyone!

Hi benthebiker6884 and welcome to SF! :)
Have you reboot the system when prompt to? Run a full scan again to be sure. If it still does not work, restore the system at the point immediately prior to infection.
Let us know the results.

Hi Ben,

Look for the monitor driver. May be that got hanged during some installations.
If your internal monitor memory is low then u can't load any theme or customize with any pics.

Ran full scan, no progress there. Unfortunatly I cannot run system restore at this point. This desktop was updated over 4 months ago and system restore was not enabled at the time.

I will look for the monitor driver. Where can I access the monitor memory to see its status?

I would run this http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

To see if it finds and fixes any corrupt files from the install/uninstall that you did.
