Desktop changes on reboot

I create a folder on the desktop.
I drag/drop all desktop icons/files into the folder.
Reboot the machine.
All icons are back on the desktop.
The folder I created / filled is empty.

Where to go ? what to read?

Hi msuffin

Before Reboot try right clicking on the desktop and selecting refresh and see if the files are still in the appropriate folders.
