Desktop Gadgets - am I alone in finding these useless

I was actually curious to see if there was any consensus to see if these were actually liked or even often used.
I don't tend to use them at all. I did not use them in Vista and I don't use them in Windows 7. As Qdos said, at least they are turned off by default in Windows 7.

While I have occasionally turned on a CPU or memory monitor...I find that since I don't have issues with either 99% of the time, there is no sense in seeing them 100% of the time. And I often find that 2-3% of my CPU time is often attributable to watching all of the meters anyway. When I need to know what my machine is doing, I just pop open task manager and look at it. Oh well, I'm just not one for much eye candy.

I do agree with the multiple desktop concept like Linux has. I do use it quite a bit on Linux and really do enjoy the functionality.

I think a lot of the gadgets out there are useless, but there are some very useful ones too.

App Launcher Gadget is extremely useful, is my favorite gadget of all time.
WeatherBug is ok, very useful and not resource hungry.

I have another that is very hard to find that will display a flyout weather map.
I have it pulling 3 different Weather Underground animated real time maps. Very cool to see the storms coming.

I also use a resource (CPU, RAM) gadget.

That's it.

So, some gadgets are very useful, but the largest majority of them out there are useless, imo.
