I have windows7 home premium. In the past there was a set of icons directly above the taskbar at the bottom of my desktop. The second set of icons included, among others, the internet explorer icon which allowed me to open multiple internet windows. These icons have disappeared and I have no idea what I've done to cause this; are they recoverable? I tried the restore to an earlier date, but that didn't resolve the missing icons.

I believe you want the taskbar to be double the height; see the following site.

That sounds like a dock which comes with some OEM installations. Here is one you can use: http://rocketdock.com/ You can position that top, bottom, left or right of the screen. I like to position mine on the left.

Jerry, Stardock, Object dock, Rocket dock - they are all very similar. Matter of personal taste, But I would not want to live without a dock. They are so handy.

Since it looks like you will need to reinstall the OS, I would suggest looking for an alternative AV program. Norton home version has become bloated and hogs system resources, but if you get the corp version, that's a different story.

Just my .02 cents.

What computer whiz? You are at the top site for help already.

Next run SFC -SCANNOW Command to check if system files are damaged, report back.

If not work through these steps to Clean Up Factory Bloatware in particular establish a Clean Boot, and check the System Resources for solutions to any problems cued.
