Hello Fleur,

It sounds like you may need to right click on your desktop and click on View -> Align icons to grid to check that option. This will prevent the icons from overlapping each other when you move them about.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

I had this problem with Windows 10. To change the spacing between icons on the desktop you need to change a registry setting.

Desktop Icons - Change Horizontal and Vertical Spacing in Windows 8

Lot different than with XP - Windows 7. START>regedit>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics, look in the right hand panel for the following: IconSpacing or IconVerticalSpacing. The values are set to a number like -1175. When adjusting this number I dropped the - in front of the value. After putting the - in front of the value and logged out and back in everything worked fine. We used to right click on the desktop and get to these setting that way. Hope this helps someone!

This was exactly the issue I was facing.
I played around with disabling themes through regedit & making custom themes.
My values were set to -480. After changing it to -1000 everything looks fine.

Thank you! ^~^
