Desktop icon removal-Not shortcuts

I have two Control Panel icons on my desktop that are not shortcuts. When I delete them they just reappear. tried the the .reg file to no avail. Also have the Network icon.(same problem). I think this could have happened when I changed my network from Public to Home.Any help would be appreciated.

In change Desktop icons box I have Network(did not work) listed but no Control Panel. Tried the .reg files they did not work either.

As a test, open Windows Explorer, click on Desktop under Favorites in the navigation pane, then delete them here to see if they stay gone from your desktop afterwards. It will not remove them from this Desktop location though, only on your actual deskop hopefully.

If not, then you might see if you may be able to use the free program Unlocker to remove them from your desktop.

Unlocker did not work. Don't know really what to do now.

Do they go away, or able to be deleted, if you change your network back to Public as a test?

That did not work either Brink. Wish I knew the registry well,Has to be some keys to delete.

Go ahead and use the Find and Find Next feature in regedit to search for {5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}. Next, post screenshots of each location found showing all of it to see if we may be able to find the culprit.

Ok, download and merge the REG file below, then restart the computer to see if it may help. It removes the registry entries for the Network and Control Panel desktop icons, and will hopefully remove them from your desktop.

Brink it did not work and I really find that odd.

Odd. As a test, create a new administrator account and log on to it to see if these shortcuts are on it's desktop as well. If not, then you might consider using the new account instead, and just copying any shortcuts, files, etc... from your old account to the new one.

Tried this to no avail. I just give up. It's really not hurting anything.

Well, as a last ditch effort, you could try doing a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully remove them.
