Desktop icons CONSTANTLY refresh

Hi all, I've had Win7 for a while now, and for a few weeks, with no solution, my desktop icons have been refreshing themselves every 10 seconds and it's very annoying. I added the string Max Icons Cache with a value of 8192 to my Explorer registry in regedit but apparently thats an XP thing. I can't figure this out and it's driving my crazy! I'm clean of viruses because i've done plenty of scans. I need help!

Was this an upgrade from another OS, or a clean install? Do you have a win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

I am sure there is no backup to restore from correct?
