Desktop Icons Problem

I just installed a new HD on my laptop and Win 7. After installing a few small apps and games, most of my icons changed. See attached screenshot. I hope there is an easy fix. Thanks.

Hi Tarkus13,

Try going into the Preferences of each of the programs you just installed, and looking for a setting called "icon overlays" or "shortcut icon" or something, and disabling that. I've seen similar behavior from antivirus software such as Norton 360, but since that overlay looks disc-software-related I would start with CDBurnerXP, if that was one of the recently installed programs you mentioned.

Thanks. Actually your term "icon overlays" gave me a clue. I d/l a Microsoft program that did the trick.

Did you do something to try to remove the shortcut arrow before and that is what caused the problem? If so, did you use FxVisor to put the shortcut arrow back? Just trying to understand what you did to actually fix the problem.

I'm not sure, but I suspect it may have started when I installed AVAST AV. I just took a shot with FxVisor which sole purpose is to get red of the arrows. But it worked for my problem.
