Desktop Icons trapped in one portion of the screen

Hi all,
I don't know if it is when I updated my video driver or if it was a Windows update, or what. I have a dual monitor setup but now all of a sudden, my desktop icons can only display in about the upper left 2/3 of the main monitor. There is space for 6 vertically and 10 horizontally. I can move them around in that space but they won't go anywhere else on either screen.
Any ideas?

On a different note, this is a fairly new system. I've got an AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Processor @3.2 GHz, 16GB of ram, a TB harddrive that's only about 30% full and dual GTX 560 Ti video cards. The strange thing is, nearly any game I play, even when I set the settings fairly low, I get a lot of pauses in the display. It seems to take forever to load games too. This has happened since the computer was first setup so I don't think it's that things are too cluttered.

Thanks for any help you might have! It's frustrating to have spent all this money on a new system and I'm not sure it's running even as well as my old one with a single GTX 9800 card!

Is remaining part of screen used whatsoever? Please open NOTEPAD or EXPLORER full screen... does it work?

I assume that you have tried:
Rt-click on empty spot on desktop |
select View item |
uncheck Auto Arrange Icons
uncheck Align Icons to grid.

Kactussoft, the screen is usable for everything else... programs run full screen or windowed without a problem.
Karlsnooks, Auto Arrange was already unchecked. Oddly enough, when I unchecked Align to grid, it let me move them but if I move them outside that area, they can't be seen... enough so that if I move one half way out of it, it's only half visible. Thanks for these suggestions though! I certainly hadn't noticed this effect before this..

Is this problem on both monitors?

Try to attach only one monitor... just to test

After making the changes, did you shutdown and then power up?

I know better... yet I still forget that!

I updated my system specs in my profile too in case that helps... it sure seems like this system ought to scream through anything I'm playing: Skyrim, Modern Warfare 2, Dungeon Siege III.
I can't even get Batman: Arkham Asylum to run and it came with the video cards, Fallout 3 won't run... it's been frustrating after spending big bucks

For your installed files:
1. 100% uninstall Kaspersky and install MSE (link in my signature)
REBOOT!

Uninstall PC Optimizer from CyberDefender
REBOOT!

If that alone, doesn't solve your problem, then:
Download and run Securia's Personal Security Inspector. This will help you to update some other programs.

After that:
Go back to the Task Scheduler tab and DISABLE ALL!
REBOOT!

WIN | type MSCONFIG | ENTER | STARTUP tab
uncheck ALL
REBOOT!

Thanks Karlsnook, that did the trick. I only had to go as far as replacing Kaspersky with the MSE. I also deleted the CCleaner program and things seem to be running waaaayyy smoother now. I've still got to work on those games that aren't running right but that's a task for another day... I wanna enjoy the ones that work right for a while
