Hi, My system recently suffered a graphics glitch on boot-up that reset the display to the default resolution causing the desktop to lose it's layout. Does anyone know where the layout information is stored? Is it possible to make a backup of it so it can be restored?

Hi,
Usually you can right click your desktop and click on personalize,
If theirs now a Unsaved theme selected or created switch back to the saved theme will switch everything back
That is dependent on "if" you saved and named the prior theme :(
Cheers.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I had saved the theme so was able to restore the settings but this doesn't appear to restore the positions of any of the desktop icons.

I presume you mean 'anywhere accessible to the user' since they're obviously stored somewhere. I kind of expected that would be the case. Ah well, I guess I'll just have to carry on making do with a screenshot of the desktop to remind me where it all goes.

System restore to an earlier time might do the task but I was hoping switching back to the saved theme would do it :/
Type the bold phrase in the start menu search,
Cheers.

Just a note if you have that many items you have WAY too many on your desktop :)

Yeah, probably - 56 at the last count :), but the majority of them get visited on a regular basis and I do tidy up from time to time. They're generally shortcuts to applications and their user manuals and to folders containing data files. I don't keep individual data files there.

I might give System Restore a try next time. Thanks for the suggestion.
