hey all, went from crt monitor to lcd monitor. when I double click desktop icon 2 windows open instead of 1. went back to crt monitor and don't have that problem. went to lcd monitor and problem is there. went so far as to try a different desktop with the same lcd monitor and have the same problem occur. even tried a different mouse. the lcd monitor is a Compaq wf1907. don't have this problem with my other lcd monitors. just wonder if this could be a software driver issue with this monitor. operating system is windows 7 pro 32 bit. this is not a touch screen monitor. the drivers are Compaq oem drivers from there website. poorguy

I don't think a monitor has anything to do with how applications open?! Unless you're only "seeing" two applications as in it's displaying twice, but it's really only one.

I agree. I don't understand why this particular monitor is doing this on 2 different desktops. the desktops work fine on other monitors thats why I am thinking that it almost has to be an issue with the driver for the monitor. thanks. poorguy

Most monitors use a preinstalled PnP driver that doesn't require a separate installation. It could be your video card driver not supporting the aspect ratio or resolution of the new monitor.

could very well be the video card or drivers that aren't supporting the monitor. next step now is to change the video card and see what happens. it is an older ati card. I do a lot of pc resurrection and donate them to people so I am working with older hardware sometimes. thanks for the input. poorguy

that was the 1st thing that I tried was the mouse swap. I still believe it is a video card problem or video card driver issue. poorguy

hey all, solved my problem it was the video card. changed from a visiontek x1300 xge to a NVidia GeForce 8400gs and problem with monitor solved. never have ever ran into this before. as far as the 2nd desktop that I had tried opened it up and it has an ati radeon video card also uncertain as to what model it is. it looks to be an oem. any way all is good now. thanks for all the input.poorguy

these are free desktop computers that I resurrect from wherever I can and donate them to people who can't afford to buy one so what ever I have in my extra parts stash is what I use in them. yes I do use a lot of old and perhaps outdated hardware but that is how I do this for free. just my time is all that I have invested in these desktop computers. most of my parts are old and outdated but for the most part are still usable for web surfing and some streaming. thanks. poorguy
