Well I haven't had a desktop since 2003 & XP single core amd chipped laptop I got then still works OK - thanks in part to my pc maintenance skills ... despite quadrupling RAM to 2gig it is slow & screen is dull & its now kept as spare & I got a samsung x64 win7 a few months ago with a fill size keyboard including numberpad at side which I expect to last me 7 years or more.

Well, I've been hit with both by an ex-girlfriend so I guess that's a vote for both. Seriously though, each does have its own advantages and disadvantages, so I got to go for door #3 as well, both.

Sorry but this is the best I could do.
I used the tutorial for finding the missing info but still could not find it. Special Thanks to PooMan UK and DocBrown for their help in filling out these specs.
Which do u choose?

A both option should be added. I can't vote because I'm equally at home with either. In fact, I have both a laptop and a desktop. Both of them run Windows 7 x64.

The notion that a laptop is to used on ones lap is a misnomer. The current speed and processor power requires a large amount of air to flow and no way with heat and air flow should a laptop be used for any serious amount of time on ones lap. So if this is the reality they too are desktop machines that are portable. I love having the freedom to roam with the laptop/notebook but for any serious work it's always back to the full tower !

I am sorry to say but in a few weeks here I will be buying an iPad for my portable browsing around my home.

I have a beefy desktop computer that I will use for gaming/graphics/video editing/typing long things/etc.. BUT, I have used an iPad to browse the internet at my friends house on his couch and I absolutely loved it.

TL/DR : I will be getting an iPad instead of a Laptop to browse the internet on my couch/around the house, but I will never fully revert to an apple product as a full replacement :) <3 Windows 7!

Yeah maybe wait for this xmas for the Win7 tablets to hit instead :)

I too LOVE the formfactor, look/feel of the ipad but..no thanks. I'd MUCH rather have a real OS that I can put my own stuff on and configure and work with my windows stuff, simple network sharing, no "syncing" etc...

I vote Both, but give a slight edge to the desktop.

Only had laptops for many years, for work and lots of traveling.

Desktop wins for power and upgrade options.

My primary PC has always been my desktop and thats the way I voted. I like tinkering with it, and upgrading it as time passes. I like playing games and can't see buying a desktop replacement to do it. I'm more of a netbook, occasional web browsing type of laptop user. :)

Both are good for one reason or the other. But I like desktops more, they can be assembled at home, they are sturdy compared to most laptops. I have a Desktop, and a laptop on a desk, Kind of being the same. I rarely use a laptop on my lap.

As implied if only one than no contest I'd have a desktop for power, performance, upgrade-ability, screen size or multiple screens, audio quality, hard drive space and speeds, cooling capacity, full size keyboard and mouse, SLI or Crossfire GPU's. Also much harder to drop, steal, and spills on a desktop only screw up the keyboard or mouse, no heat radiation on my twig and berries !

My desktop is a bit like 'Triggers' broom' - I've had it for around ten years in which time it's had 3 new motherboards, several graphics cards, hard drives, RAM sticks. I've changed the case at least four times and had a selection of monitors.
Now you wouldn't want to do that with a Laptop but equally you wouldn't use a Desktop for 'on the road' or sitting in the garden.
