I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and everytime I try to install Windows 7 from my desktop I will click install and It says "Setup is loading temporary files" It will say this for about 10sec then run a command prompt and close bringing me back to the desktop asking if I want to install. I have downloaded the Win7 Upgrade adviser and it says everything is good to go.

I had no issue upgrading my laptop from Vista to Win7. I have also tried booting directly from the disk but it gets as far as to ask what language, If I agree with license terms and then if I want to custom install or upgrade. I click upgrade then it asks for 32bit of 64bit and then tells me I need to eject the disk and start my PC normally.

really do not want to go through all the hassle of a clean install. I would rather not sit here installing all my programs, games, documents and music back onto my computer. not to mention I don't have an external hard drive so I cant backup my stuff.

I do appreciate it but if at all possible and upgrade would most definitely be preferred

Maybe I'm missing something. I am relatively proficient with computers but I am by no means an expert(obviously).

You could do a Custom Install by using OPTION TWO in the link above to have all of your current files in Vista saved to a C:\Windows.old folder in Windows 7 after the installation is complete. However, you will still need to reinstall your drivers and programs. Everything else can be copied back from the Windows.old folder.

I do not see any other way of installing Windows 7 if it will not let you do a upgrade install. :(

I just bought a external hard drive and backed up my files so I could do a clean install but now that I have installed Windows 7 It will successfully install and then restart and act like its gunna go to the user selection then the screen will go dark and do nothing. If I manually restat the computer it does the same thing like its gunna start normal then it will go dark again. I am worried someting is seriously wrong. Did I possibly install the wrong bit version?

No, you didn't install the wrong version. If you are attempting to install the 64 bit version, the installer would not let you do anything if the CPU didn't support 64 bit.

What model Dell Dimension do you have? I don't recognize DXP061 as a valid model number.

Please update your system specs to reflect the correct model, and also fill in all relevant information. Do you have an after-market video card, or is it the one that came with the XPS?
