Desktop PSU

My desktop PSU is starting to play up well its the fan is the problem,on occasions the fan makes a terrible sound as if there was something rubbing against the blades.I gave it a good blow out of dust but it didn't solve the problem.
Now on getting a new one do I have to get any particular one or are they mostly the same,And are all the wire connections the same all round.
In other words do I to be careful when buying a new one?

Is this the computer in your specs? This is a laptop, not a desktop. We need more information if it isn't the same, such as make and model number.

Waw quick reply,No its not the one with specs here,Its my main desktop pc it was a self build by a local computer shop then only info I can give you its a biostar,Thats what the label says on the casing.It has two 500gb hdd two optical drives sd card reader windows 7 4gb ram,Sorry it may sound a bit vague to you.
Does that info help in any way.

Can you open it up and see what it says on the PSU itself? Note that you might have to physically remove the PSU if the label isn't visible.

Well to be honest I'm not very techy,Maybe the best option would be to take it to the guy who built it for me.Its not far away about 1mile.What would be the average cost been looking on amazon there are many different types available with different prices.

If you're not very technical and au fait with that sort of thing, then I would think that is your best choice. It is probably going to be a standard ATX PSU, but as you're a bit vague as to its specs, I'd be hesitant to say for sure what you require.

Just a thought. Next computer you have built request a list of components used. Brand name, part number and basic specs. This may help also. Speccy.

This will not tell you anything about your power supply but will give you a lot of information about your system. Most dealers will use a generic low cost power supply unless requested other wise.
