Desktop Shortcuts Stop Working And I Have To Logoff to fix

Hi everyone
Every now and again my desktop icons stop working, just get a spinning wheel to the right of the icon. I can't launch Firefox or other programs. However, If i logoff and log straight back in again everything works fine. Can anyone help please?

Hello A. G. and welcome to SevenForums ,

Can you open ( left-hand low corner ) " Windows Explorer" with a left then right click?

Find Desktop on the left-hand side, left click to open it up. Stay on the desktop icon now right click and open properties.

In next page click on change desktop icons.

In next page click restore defaults and ok,
