Suddenly, I find that my desktop computer running on Windows7 will not automatically reboot, either when I click on " shutdown/restart" when open or when starting-up when off. Instead I get a dark screen with a message"Reboot and select proper reboot device". To locate a "proper reboot device" I must shut down and do a constant click on F12 during manual startup. This opens a reboot menu which contains a choice list of all my drive items, among them a SCSI Control Manager item located about halfway down the list. Only choosing this SCSI item will boot the computer.
1. How do I remove all the useless items?
2. If I can't remove them, how can I get the SCSI item to the top of the list so, perhaps, the computer will auto-reboot? (The auto-reboot is already checked as "ON" in msconfig boot)?
3. Best of all, how can I get the computer to auto-reboot (as it did for years prior to today)? I tried a System Restore but to no avail.

In BIOS the boot list is 1. EFT Drive 2. Hard Drive: SanDisk 3. CD/DVD 4. Removable Device 5. [LAN].
I've tried to reset the priority in BIOS Boot to the Hard Drive and SCSI item but tono avail.

Perhaps a bios update is in order? Before you do anything so drastic though, if your bios is refusing to let you fix the boot priority you could try disconnecting the non-essential hardware when your PC is turned off and adding it back one piece at a time. IF the bios still refuses you to set boot priority and you have thoroughly checked all your settings in your bios you could try pulling the battery on the motherboard and waiting a few minutes before putting it back. This will reset your motherboard back to factory settings so you will have to reset your clock and reconfigure it but sometimes this does help.

NOT ENOUGH ROOM TO LIST ALL HARD DRIVES HERE. Cuts me off at 5. Did you know that if you run a network you can scan your PC for viruses via other PCs using several different virus scanners? No virus scanner gets it all. This is narrows down the window for contracting a virus. By using multiple operating systems you can use different virus scanners with no risk of conflict.

Thank you for your help. Your pointing me to BIOS has turned the trick. I went back to it (before receiving your last message) and retried setting the primary boot to Hard Disk, this time successfully. The computer now automatically reboots when I Shut Down/Restart! Thanks again.
