Hi all:
W7 Home Prem. on Dell XPS, quad core, 4GB.
I'm pleased with W7 except that windows seem to open rather slowly, whether maximizing or minimizing, or just opening/closing programs. It's like two seconds; no big thing except I'd prefer they snap open and close as they did in Vista.
Monitor is HannsG 28" running off dual GeForce 9800GT SLI. Seems to me things were a bit speedier before I enabled SLI (it hadn't been enabled which is the way it came from Dell last fall and I just discovered that the other day.) Or maybe it's my imagination.
In any event, I tested this with Solitaire, even moving the cards in the game is so slow it's nerve-wracking.
Is there any way to adjust this?

Thanks!!!

Ted

Hi tcomo :)

Your hardware seems perfectly capable.
Is it the same with Aero turned off?
Are you able to disable SLI that you enabled before?

Thanks rsvr85. If I disable Aero, problem goes away. But I like some of the features of Aero, particularly the ability to mouse over the task bar to see thumbs of open windows; I usually have a lot of windows open for the work I do and these abilities to work with windows was one of the appeals for me of W7.
I was hoping there was some way to control some features of Aero, such as the ability to quickly maximize and minimize windows, rather than this frustrating built-in delay. I know it's only a couple of seconds, but when you're engrossed in work, it just interrupts your workflow.

Have you tried adjusting some of the Performance settings in the Advanced System Settings?
(ignore the highlights, i posted this earlier for a different thread).
