Desktops: Tower on desk or floor?

My case once sat obtrusively, proud and menacing on the desk. It drew your eye. It commanded attention upon entering the room.

As the shiny fans and dual video card setups grew, so too did the noise. Tolerance about case desktop placement started to waver. The last pair of cards were the the straw that broke the camels back.

They sound like hair dryers under load so the once proud and mighty case was quickly banished to the side of the desk with nary a second thought.

LOL I welcome the noise of the case fans, it drowns out my wife yelling at me.....

I have two towers on the floor due to size and a third one on the side of the desk.

Mine sits on the right hand edge of my desk. I have a heavy case as well, the Antec P180. I think it's around 50lbs with everything in it. It doesn't sit on the floor as my computer is in the basement and I don't want to take any chances of the basement taking in any water. I may built a small little stool for it to sit on at some point to get it off my desk.

I place mine atop some old emachine towers that reside on the floor next to my computer desk.

I can't really vote, as I alternate between the floor and the desk. It varies on what I'm doing also, and what room I am in.

In my bedroom I usually have the desktop I use on a desk. In the living room however I would put it on the floor, don't know why.

(I almost put bathroom instead of bedroom. lol)

I mainly use my laptop though

On a TV stand, next to my (mis~appropriated lab table) desk: Puts the media drives right at arms reach, and aims the fans below the tabletop so they're less obnoxious.

I may go liquid cooling for the next build - if only to make the thing quieter.
