Hi, I have a slight issue installing Deux Ex (the original 2000 release) The main problem is getting the setup exe to run from the disc, it just doesn't do anything.

I've searched high and low and while there are plenty of people running the installation (rather spottily tho) on win7 with the GOTY addition, my copy is from waaaaay back in the day of its inital release and while my drive reads and recognises the disc, it just wont run the setup exe. People with the goty edition don't seem to have this issue so i'm guessing its due to the discs age? some incompatability or some such?
I've tried using compatibility mode and administrator access on the setup exe on the disc, not surprisingly with little success and attempts to copy the cd's contents to the hard drive to run the file there have met with equal failure, I cant copy files from the cd to the hard drive :(

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, itching to play this classic

The contents of the disc might be corrupted or the disc itself is damaged. Or age might have caught up with the disk, they do have shelve life.

Can you try and use a software like powerISO to copy the disc into the hard driver? Worst case scenario I recommend just buying the game again on steam, it sure will work! it's $10, if you're on Europe I have no idea but it sure will be cheap as well!

if you rip the game you can use something like daemontools to emulate the ISO

I also very much recommend buying Human revolution it's just awesome :D

Most of my games are on steam (not anymore, DTD, Games for windows, gammersgate, Origins... it's all over the place now)
My guess is it's the disc..I recently reinstalled this without issues but the game disc itself is new as in I bought it only a year or so ago.

Ok, Well I managed to get an ISO of the game from a friend whose copy was new, never made an iso before so skipped myself until i get a chance to know what im doing. The disc is in pretty good condition (as far as the eye could see... :sarc:) not sure if as you all suggested the disc is knackered, or if the old installer wasn't win7 friendly but your suggestions got me where I needed to be in either event so, my thanks to you all for your replies :D
