Device Manager And COM Ports: Where ?

Hello,

Trying to find in Device Manager the listing for the COM Ports, and how they are set.

Just cannot seem to find it.
Looked in all of the Trfees, but still can't seem to have it show.

Where in Device Manager is it, or what do I have to do to have it show up ?

You do not have "Ports (COM & LPT) above Processors? Might try using View > Show Hidden Devices

Hidden Views does not change the situation: COM and LPT still doesn't show ?

Any other thoughts on ?

Double check your BIOS settings to make sure that you have COM and LPT ports enabled if available. If disabled, that would cause it to not show in Device Manager.

Usually when you restart the computer, you'll have a splash screen showing you what key (ex: DEL or F1) to press to enter BIOS or Setup. It varies, and you'll only have a couple of seconds to press the key before Windows continues to startup. If you miss the pressing the key in time, you'll have to restart the PC to try again.

However, if you never have been in the BIOS to change the settings, then this most likely is not the issue since it would be enabled by default.

Instead, have you installed all of your drivers (ex: chipset)?

BIOS Screen For COM Ports, etc. ?

Have a three year old HP Desktop, and running the 64 bit version of W7.

I understand that it is possible when starting the PC to get to a screen that shows the COM Ports assignments, and allow for possibly changing them.

"shut down and restart. Do whatever your computer requires for you to check BIOS settings during
system startup (usually pressing the Del or Esc key from the initial boot screen).
Then, enter BIOS setup and enable USB support."

I looked at the screen that opens up with F8 pressing when first starting, and also the F10 option.

I cannot see anything regarding BIOS and COM or USB Ports.

How do I get to it, please ?

BTW: any other way to see the COM Port assignments and setup ?

What device needs the port?

Is the device listed in Devices and Printers? (r-hand side of start menu)

Yes?
R-click on the device and select devicetype properties, not Properties at the bottom of the alt menu

The unit I am trying to get working is an Keyspan/Tripplite HS19 USB to Serial Converter.
It connecdts my PC to a shortwave radio that has a serial connector on the rear for allowing various programs to actually control the radio from the PC.

It used to work, but I haven't used it for a few years. Tryinging to get it going again.
I am pretty sure the Driver for it. is correct.

Just seems like my PC can't find or recognize it.

If I, as suggested, click right click, the menu that comes up is:

Most newer computers do not have comm or serial ports. You may need to go to the tripplite sight and download the usb to serial port driver software and reinstall it.

I have a couple of older apu's that use a serial port and I have used this same cable you have. Nothing in devise manager until you install the drivers for the cable.
