Device Manager and Skype does not recongnize Built-in webcam.

Hello My computer information is as follows:

Gateway NV53 Laptop
Ram 4gb
Window 7
CPU: AMD anthelon II dual core processor

The issue that my built in webcam is not recognized by any application including device manager
THe last time i took a picture with the camera was 4/30. So i don't think i can restore all the way back then. I noticed the problem when Skype said it couldn't find the webcam.

Hi there ... I would try downloading Hardware Vendor Detection .. From the Link below .. There are two Webcam Applications ... I do not know which one is needed .. You might find that Information in the Users Guide which is also in the Link ... You can also use Gateway Recovery Management to Re-Install the Driver

There is not much you can do on the Windows side of things (drivers) until the device is recognized. And if it does not show in Device Manager, and there is not an unknown device listed, then that's where you are.

There is the obvious possibility that the device has failed and needs replacement. However the cost of repair usually exceeds the cost of an external webcam (unless you DIY). So keep that option in mind.

You could try resetting the BIOS. This might work if the device works but has been ignored by BIOS for some reason - a long shot indeed.

• Note your BIOS settings, so you can reset them later
• Turn off the laptop, disconnect the power supply, remove the battery
• Press and hold the Power button for 20 seconds or so
• Replace the battery and power supply, start the laptop.
• Immediately go into the BIOS settings. If the reset worked you will need to set the correct date and time. This does not always happen because laptops have a battery that maintains the Real Time Clock.
• Go to the Exit Tab and find Restore Defaults (or similar) and highlight it and press Enter. Restart the laptop.
• Go back into BIOS settings and now you can reset your previous settings > Save & Exit.

If the BIOS resets and the device is still not recognized then it is probably time for the repair shop or an external webcam.

New Issues New Theory

I found out what may be causing the problem and another problem.

Sometimes when I move my laptop I hear a sound. The default "dun-dun" you hear when you remove a usb device from the computer. But rhe only device I have attached is a mouse and it is never affected. So it could be that the camera is detaching somehow which would make it a hardware problem. I might have to move this post somewhere else

oh and the issue that may be causing it could be power failure

That is a possibility. There is a single wire that runs through the display housing hinge compartment from the motherboard to the camera and it can (possibly) get snagged, twisted, or frayed, but not by design. There would need to be some trauma or user intervention. Have anyone ever disassembled the laptop?
If you have a small computer repair shop near you it might be a good idea to have them take a look at it.

Have you run Windows diagnostics yet?
Go to Start > and type: problem > check out:

• View all problem reports
• View solutions to problems
• Fix problems with your computer

A dying battery can throw up all kinds of strange problems. If it needs a new battery get one. No good can come by waiting.

hi I had the same problem and gateway does not have the drive under my laptop gateway nv53 so I got it under gateway nv53a there is three driver the seconed one I tried worked I am up and runnig
