I have an ATI radeon 5450 card. After i installed Windows 7, the display device in device manager has been showing as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I have used windows 7 previously too on the exact same system (except i added a tv tuner card a year ago, dont know if that matters), but never encountered this problem.
The hardware IDs show up as:
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68F9&SUBSYS_30311682&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68F9&SUBSYS_30311682
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68F9&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_68F9&CC_0300

When i google these, it shows as ATI 5450, but why doesnt my device manager show me the same?
Even my ATI catalyst Control Center does not launch after installation, and the driver details in my device manager remain unchanged too.

All the videos and media appear extremely pixellated even on LOW res.

I have not made any changes in BIOS.

ALL i tried was uninstalling the standard vga from device manager, rebooted and let it reinstall, but that didnt change a thing.

Please help.

The standard procedure while installing Drivers is in this order: Update BIOS, then update Chipset Driver and only then the graphics Driver. Create a restore point and proceed.

Am sorry, what exactly should i do?
Create a restore point, and then manually update bios, chipset and graphics (in this order)? Can i skip the bios update? Ive never done it before and dont even know how to do it, and have been told its possible to mess up bad if u dont know what you r doing.

AMD Driver Autodetect
does it detect your card as ATI radeon 5450 card? does it install the driver?

I dont know... all device manager says is Standard VGA graphics adapter.

So i dont think the drivers are being installed (although the installation process does not give me any errors).

seems like the same problem for me.

for the graphic driver, I downloaded the mobility version which works fine, compared to the "12-1_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe" which doesn't install anything for my laptop.

I still can't get the CCC.exe to work though

Philip,
Can you please help me with the link to the mobility thing? Would really appreciate it. I too have tried the 12-1vista win7.
CCC is not too important to me as long as my card works is detected correctly and the pixellation thing is dealt with.

first u'll need to download the: Catalyst Software Suite.

ATI Catalyst

it will ask you to extract some files first then download the installer using the software extracted. the size is pretty much similar to the 12-1_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc.exe.

If you get the correct installer it should have something like this: 12-1_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl.exe

hi philip
I downloaded the catalyst (the 1 mb file) and when i ran the exe... i get a dialogue saying "AMD Catalyst Mobility cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer". "Your computer does not contain a proper graphics adapter"
Very strange it says that, since my monitor is connected to my graphic card itself. So if the card was not working, i would imagine my monitor wouldnt be working either.

Ill try their desktop version n see

AMD Driver Autodetect does it detect your grphics card and says it it's radion 5450?

Hi again kaktussoft

AMD Driver autodetect recognized my card correctly (Radeon HD 5XXX series PCIe)
It said the best driver would be 12-1 vista_win_64dd_ccc.exe

AM downloading that now and am hoping that should work
