Windows 7 v6.1 32 bit. PC on home network, Two PCs on cable and up to five on wireless. Network Printer. The Devices and Printers page of Control Panel will not load. Green bar starts across the top of the screen but does not complete. Printer still works with MS Office programs. Logitech Web Cam also works. The page opens in Safe Mode. The page does not open when all startup items are disabled in MSConfig. Any ideas?

Normally because of a failing/failed device in your system.

Open up Device Manager and see if anything in the system has a yellow triangle on it.

If you expand the disk drives and right click on the problem drive and choose Properties, on the General tab there will be a message and code referring to the cause of the problem.

So this is where we can't go any further without more information on your system.

There is a section at the left bottom of your post window that says "My System Specs" > click that, then click "Update my System Specs" and fill that out the best you can to start.

Is this PC a desktop or Laptop?
Home Built or Store Bought (Brand & Model #)?
Is the error triangle on the hard drive(s) or just the CD/DVD drive?

If it's the disk drives then I'm guessing that you will need to install the chipset drivers for your system, but where you would get them and how you would install them or even if they are indeed needed depends on the answers.

If it is only the CD/DVD drive then you could have the UpperFilters issue, which has a different solution.

Laptop. Bought at store. In device manager its both on the hard drive and the cd/dvd-rom. However the hard drives show up in my computer and i dont seem to have any problems with it either. While the dvd-rom doesnt show up in my computer and i cant use it at all.(it does however function psychially)

One question: In my system info it is said that i have a x86 based system, is it then wrong to use x64 operative system?

My understanding is that you wouldn't be able to install the 64 bit OS on a system that could not do 64 bit. The installer would say no.

What you want to do is go to the laptop manufacturer's website, look up your exact model, go to the drivers or downloads page, and look for the chipset drivers for your laptop. Also see if there are any AHCI/RAID drivers (if you have a SATA drive in that laptop, of course).

Install these to see if it clears up the Device Manager issue. If your system already has the drivers installed you will be informed by the installer.

I did get the chipset driver, installed and restarted. Nothing happend, though.
There were no ahci/raid drivers, however there is a sata driver for an almost similar laptop. Should i try it?

How similar?
If they don't have the driver for your laptop it may not work or worse.
Your call.

Not similar enough. How about drivers from other sites?

I tried to boot from my win 7 cd, but got the following error "cannot boot from CD code:5". Maybe i took the wrong cd though, ill try to get the right cd tomorrow since i cant see which one is the correct one (havent marked them in any way) without inserting them in a player.

Also see if there are any AHCI/RAID drivers (if you have a SATA drive in that laptop, of course). .

I tried a driver from another site "SATA Intel SATA Driver AHCI 8.9.0.1023 21.4 MB 2009/10/22". It installed "intel matrix storage console", where you cane see hard drive status. It says that all hard drives are OK and functioning. So the real problem is the cd-rom not functioning.

Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:

Windows 7 v6.1 32 bit. PC on home network, Two PCs on cable and up to five on wireless. Network Printer. The Devices and Printers page of Control Panel will not load. Green bar starts across the top of the screen but does not complete. Printer still works with MS Office programs. Logitech Web Cam also works. The page opens in Safe Mode. The page does not open when all startup items are disabled in MSConfig. Any ideas?
A possible cause is a 4-port USB hub which recently failed. The problem persisted when the USB hub was disconnected after reboot. Have now replaced the USB hub. Devide Manager reports that all devices are working properly. Still no Devices and Printers page.:(

Have a look at this thread it may help you resolve your problem -
http://www.sevenforums.com/hardware-devices/8157-device-printer-panel-does-not-load.html

Try the below which will test for corrupted system files - have your W7 install DVD handy - try this if the first solution isnt applicable.

Click Start
Type: CMD, from the results, right click CMD
Click 'Run as Administrator'
At the Command Prompt, type: sfc/scannow
