I have a Maxtor 500GB external drive. I've updated the driver in the device manager, but since my last shutdown, the computer will not recognise the drive. But the device manager see's it. Please help.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You could try a different USB port.

Failing that, uninstall the drive in Device Manager, disconnect the drive and restart Windows then plug your drive back in. With a bit of luck, Windows will recognise it this time.

Maxtor have been taken over by Seagate so you might want to check their driver and support site to see if there are any updated drivers for the drive.

Thankyou for your support. But after trying what you suggested my problem still exists.
