Trying to find a compatible driver for my Diamond XS51 sound card. I tried using the vista driver from the cd, but then it's not recognized as a surround sound card, the only speaker options are 2. trying to install that driver with compatiblity mode for vista SP1 causes a BSOD. I've also tried it for SP2 and again crashed windows. I'll try it as XP SP2 after i type this up and see if i crash with a BSOD again. In the meantime, does anyone know of a W7 compatible driver for this card?

Hi.

Right click on it in device manager. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results here and please do not use a screenshot as an alternative.

x64 or x86?

Vender and Device ID's are all the same in the list, this is the main ID. And it's W7 Ultimate x86 :)

Here you go. I had to search a while and then make this for you out of something I found. You lucked out because it was the last one I tried out of many.

Right click on the device in device manager. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the CMAUDIO.inf. Hit ok and let it install.

I wrote a short !README.txt included so you can keep this along with instructions for future installs.

Enjoy! :D

the driver works :) i now have sound.

Only problem is it killed the audio config program, so now along with sound i have an annoying echo, like it's set the mixer on cave setting or something. Any way i can get the sound mixer software back without wiping out this working driver? I don't want to tinker and mess it up :)

It sounds like some kind of looping going on. Make sure the default recording input is not set to be heard by the outputs. Try looking in C:\Windows folder. Sort by file type. One of the .exe may be the software you're looking for to disable "enhancements." Maybe it's called soundman.exe.

i switched from 5.1 to stereo and then back in the sound options in control panel, checked the recording tab and disabled the recording devices (no mic nor a use for one here). That seems to have fixed it, i don't get the echo anymore.

The audio mixer program is still dead though, i'd like to have that back to enhance my playback :) when i try running just that setup file from the mfg cd it causes a BSOD with any type of compatibilty i set, xp -xp sp3 and vista - vista sp2.

Never mind ;) after drinking my morning pot of coffee my brain kicked on. i found beta drivers for W7 at CMedia. C-Media Company Information

Installing the driver for my sound chip gave a BSOD, but installing it in Vista compatibility mode gives me a working driver with a working sound mixer. :)

thanks again for your help and advice!
