Did HP Buy Compaq?

Did HP Buy Compaq? I have a Compaq Lap... And I Over heard this.. does this mean that my computer is basically HP And the support will be HP too?

HP and Compaq merged in 2001 so if your computer is less than 10 years old it's a product of the merged company. HP is currently looking to sell or spin off it's PC business so who knows where your support will come from then.

Yes, while they merged, the Compaq name more or less went away...and HP rebranded things like Compaq Proliant servers and put their name on it instead.

Lenovo did pretty good with IBM PC support but Lenovo had been around for a while and had a plan. A lot will depend on who, if any, picks up the HP PC division. It looks like they plan on getting out of the consumer market (not enough margin). Wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft partnered up with someone or took it on alone.

I remember my first Compaq. Around 1993 as I recall. At the time it was the top of line PC and I wanted to add another hard drive. Found out everything in it was proprietary and had to order drive mounts. I vowed that would be the last Compaq I would ever own. And it was.

HP didn't BUY Compaq, they merged with quite a while ago, i remember it clearly.
