Hi,

Have not asked for the Win 10 update as prefer to keep Win 7, but for some reason I am getting the "Upgrade to windows 10 Home" error 80240020. It just keeps repeatedly trying and failing.

Can anyone tell me how to stop this as I do not want the Win 10 download? Can I just uninstall and hide update KB3035583?

I have recently reinstalled a fresh copy of windows 7 so would be really grateful if anyone can offer any advice.

Many thanks for any replies. :)

Thanks ThrashZone,

I've already uninstalled/hidden KB3035583, deleted the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and used the Disk Cleanup tool to delete "Temporary installation files"

This seems to have stopped the continual Win 10 upgrade update fail (error 80240020) cycle every time I logon.

I will just have to hope the normal Windows 7 updates come through now and that the system runs OK with what I have done. Especially as I have only just done a fresh re-install recently!

Really annoyed with Microsoft. It should have been offered with an option to say "No thanks" and the Win 10 icon should have gone without having to hide KB3035583. I did not reserve a copy and apart from clicking the Win 10 icon by mistake once have not asked for the upgrade! Not sue how the upgrade started.

Hi,
Well the upgrade started because usually people didn't review updates before downloading and installing them,

Most if not all were first offered as Optional updates = if update settings are correctly set ;)
View attachment 369887

If not and on auto download and install these people end up with things they may not want,
We here monitor all update cycles and post fishy ones all the time :)
You're welcome to ask at any time about updates delivered to you
We will be more than happy to give you our thoughts and research on them ;)
Cheers.
