I'm hoping that these and other cumulative updates will make Windows 7 a bit more stable. Although I have not experienced a BSOD, I run Windows 7 Premium 64bit and have had more programs terminate improperly in the last few weeks than in all the years I ran XP.

I am honestly wishing for XP back, and wondering whether this "OS" is worth the hundreds of dollars I spent on it.

No wonder half the people around me who try this OS end up buying a Macintosh... (No joke.)

I gave my nephew the Dell 9000 box and built myself something more along my performance wishes.

I'm still not done and need some odds and ends, but so far this PC blows away anything I've ever built.
Hello Everyone,
Im new here and would like to introduce myself first - My name is Shane.
Here we go. Last night I updated Windows 7 64bit with those 2 updates and I would never get back into my system. BSOD city! It blue screens at normal boot, safe mode, last known good config. I tried to use the System Startup Repair from the disk I used to install 7 and it said my system wasn't compatible with this version of the repair on my disk. I got around this by unpluging the raid 0 drives. Once I got into the Win7 Startup Repair it said it couldn't repair my problem and wanted to send info to Microsoft - I did that. I tried alot of other things like system restore and it said I have no restore point. I can access all of the data on my XP test PC and it passes the drive access test. I also performed a dskchk with a Win 7 system and it found errors and corrected them just to make things worse. It would blue screen much sooner than before now.
The first bsod error is 0x0000007b

Here is the info I got from the error when 7 couldn't repair

6.1.7600.16385
21201021
External Media
5
Bad Driver
6.1.7600.2.0.0.2561
1033

I also made a complete backup of the drive b4 I wiped it and reinstalled......so pissed....lol

Please let me know where (the backup) I can access anything else that could help with this issue.

Thanks in advance
Shane

Well, yesterday late afternoon, after returning from dinner, the system was froze. I thought I had a fix but it doesn't look like it. I still feel the updates helped, as it did sit idle for a while and did not freeze up. That seems to be my problem Win7, sitting idle and freezing up requiring the hard reset. But after the updates it seems better. I STILL think the issue and I really believe this, is solely a Win 7 issue. So the patches didnt fix it, but they must be on the right track. Hopefully.

Are the Apps improperly terminating programmed for XP by any chance?

I am honestly wishing for XP back,

It still exists, no need to use a time machine to grab it either ;)

No offence intended, but it says a lot about the people you know.

Well I thought after the first day, the idle freeze ups were done, not happening. Let it sit idle and return for a hard reset. Looking at all the posts for the same problem, you can't deny it has to be WINDOWs 7.:sarc:

Heh, it's quite alright. I stuck it out, corrected the device driver issues and fell absolutely in love with Windows 7. I'm now running two i7-950 servers with 12 gigs each, and an i7-920 based media system.

My media system is integrated with my Sony HDTV, which allows me to stream just about every type of file directly from the media system to the Sony via Wifi!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I had a few growing pains which were probably my fault, due to never having really used Vista or Windows 7 beta.

I've since shown my setup to a few folks from work who are strictly Mac users, and they were impressed! (Especially since I had OSX Leopard running on a 2nd screen with the help of VMWare :p )

Wouldn't go back to XP even if there was a Tardis outside. :-)

Dave
