Did the thing I was told to do only to keep getting BSOD

Hello, new to this forum.

I have W7 with viruses and as I was told to use safe modes to figure out problems, I did what I was told.

I was able to install Malwarebytes which was restricted on normal mode, and cleaned out some memories so I can make it function faster.

However, after that, I keep getting BSOD and I have only 1 option - To get a serial key.

What is causing this BSOD? Normal mode was working alright just with viruses and popups and as I removed it I am consistently getting BSOD every restart

Could you be more specific in the BSODs? What BSODs do you get?

Regarding the viruses, none of us would want to download something from an infected system to get our own system infected so I'll ask a security analyst to have a look at this. I would like confirmation that your system is truly clean before we start troubleshooting the BSODs.

Who told you to use safe mode? Are you getting help anywhere besides here at sevenforums from a friend, family member or other online help forum?

I would like to see the Malwarebytes log to see what it removed. To find the log, please do as follows:


  • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more.
  • Click on the History tab > Application Logs
  • Double click on the scan log which shows the Date and time of the scan just performed.
  • Click Copy to Clipboard
  • Paste the contents of the clipboard into your next reply.


From what you describe above, it sounds like you "might" be infected with a fake Windows Activation virus.

Please hold off running further scanners other than the one I ask you to run below till we can determine what damage has been done to the file system and if you are infected. Some infections must be approached in a systematic way so as not to cause further damage.

Boot your computer to the Advanced Boot Options menu by restarting the computer and tapping the F8 keyboard. Once there, navigate with your arrow key to Safe Mode with Networking and press the Enter key.

Once you are at the desktop, please do as follows:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop. <<< Very Important!

Note: You will need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version (32 or 64-bit) applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.


  • Make sure that FRST is on the desktop of the infected system
  • Right click and choose Run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run it generates a second log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST.exe/FRST64.exe). Please also paste that along with the FRST.txt into your reply.

Ok, I need you to do two things for me and in the meantime I will be reviewing your logs. This could take a bit of time so your patience will be appreciated. :geek:

Thank you for attaching the FRST.txt log. I need to see the Addition.txt log as well. Look in your Downloads folders and see if you can find the log titled Addition.txt and attach that in your next reply.

Also, those are not the right Malwarebytes logs I need. Look at the image below. Do you see where I have outlined the Scan log in red? Do you have one located there? If so, I need you to click on the Scan log to open it up. Once it opens up you will see a blue Export button at the bottom left. Click to open the Export button and choose Copy to clipboard then just paste it in your next reply.

Please post the logs I requested above for my viewing pleasure. :)

I have created a fix script that should give you access to normal boot mode. Please follow the instructions below:


  • Download the attached fixlist.txt to your Downloads folder.
    Please note: fixlist.txt must be saved to the same location as FRST\FRST64.exe

    NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
  • Run frst.exe (on 64bit, run frst64.exe) and press the Fix button just once and wait as the script is executed and the computer reboots.
  • The tool will make a log (Fixlog.txt) which you will find where you saved FRST. Please post it to your next reply.

Not sure what you mean by, "Thats what I did (with deleting appropriate memories)". What did you do to delete "appropriate memory" besides merely booting into Safe Mode?

Safe Mode, not being the default mode, is a diagnostic mode, which is used to detect, repair or troubleshoot computer issues. In Safe Mode, only drivers required for minimal operation conditions are loaded so that instructions can be given and information received from the operating system. Any additional features such as scanners, network drives, and some high level application software might not work in this mode. Windows loads in VGA graphics mode with a smaller color palette and resolution. In Safe Mode, Windows also tests the extended memory before loading.

The best way that I know to "clear out the hard drive" is by getting rid of unused documents, data, and applications, you can greatly increase the performance of your computer. Delete everything in your trash and temp files, as these files take up space on your computer. Also, you can free up RAM by closing any applications that you aren’t using. Another way to free up RAM is to limit the amount of programs your computer automatically opens upon startup.

I was asking if it was safe to use Safe Mode to clear out the disk? After that it led me to BSOD.
