Difference between these processors?

To the OP. Just go to Intel's web site and get the specs of the cpu you are needing information about. All the specs are there. I would not wast time looking into a dual core. After you have picked the ones that interest you check the prices and see if you are willing to pay the cost. I do not have a i5 but many people on many sits praise them.

I don't know the sites in the UK, but lookup Dell Alienware Aurora. It's about at the top of your price range, but I have been told they are good computers. I read on the internet somewhere that they are not built by Dell, but buy Sager, which is actually a Clevo. If that's true, it is a good computer.
EDIT: Sorry, I don't think that is what you are looking for.

Uhh ohh... if you buy an Alienware you'll never be able to live it down. ;) With Alienware you're only paying for a name... a name that no longer means what it used to... not that it was ever synonymous with great machines in certain circles. Add to that I don't know of anyone who's owned one who didn't get tired of their odd cases after a year. :p

If as a kid you've ever built a model airplane, then you're already more than qualified to build your own machine. The only "trick" is picking the right parts; parts which go together... and we're certainly here to help you with that. After that, it's impossible to place things incorrectly... you just won't be able to fit a stick of RAM in incorrectly... slot placement prevents that.

It's only going to take your a couple hours to go from boxes laying on the table to your Windows desktop... even if this is your very first build. Don't worry about cable management, that's a skill developed over time, but I'm quite sure you'll throw up a good looking rig if you put any thought into it at all.

The only thing that puts me off about building my own computer is firstly,

The drivers, Looking for drivers is really annoying when they are not from a well known manufacturer,

I know the drivers would come with the hardware but knowing me across the line i would miss place them,

I have no idea where to start i.e. what motherboards i would need to get, graphics card,

I know some of the stuff but ill need to refresh my mind.

So if i was to start now where would i start,

Getting the case, then MOBO, then graphics or am i missing some importants parts out,

It is true that building your own custom computer in the long run it turns out the be cheaper?

Regards Paul

Start by giving us a budget to work with. I can't promise you the machine you build will be any cheaper, but I can guarantee it will be better.

Drivers are a non-issue. Once you select the parts we can point you to all the drivers you need. You can download them and save them to CD well before hand so they'll be readily available.

And when Funz gives you the link to the drivers, put that in your favorites of your web browser. That way you can always re download them or get the new drivers as they are released.

I would start by picking the CPU you want, then you will know which socket motherboard to look for.

Now are cases made for specific motherboards?

E.g. All of the ports such as usb fit in place on the case?

Im a novice when it comes to building computers,

Cases are made for specific sized motherboards, ATX, mATX, mini-ITX etc. That is an ATX board so you would want an ATX case and since this is a gaming PC you'd want a gaming case with good airflow. I'd recommend the HAF X. The USB connections have headers you attach to the board. You'll find some Build Your Own PC guides on youtube (in 720p) and by googling.
