Different display using different programs?

So i just bought a 23in samsung led to replace my 23in lcd. I was using a monster isf calibration disk via dvd player. When using wmp the video looks so so, using wmvhd dvd it looks excellent however it will not play the chapters it just shows the menu.

Windows media center looks so so as well however it displays the moving x that wmp did not show. Windows media player classic as well looks so so. So this wmvhd dvd thing makes the picture about 20x better. Why and how is that possible.

Also the moving x does not show via my xbox 360 dvd or hd dvd player.

Basically Windows media player, Windows media player classic, and Windows media center display the picture quality looking decent. Using Wmvhd dvd the display of the movie looks amazing.

I dont understand why that is
