Solved Different, Frequent, and Random BSODs

Motherboard: ASUS P5QL/EPU
RAM : 8GB DDR2-1066 GSkill PC8500
Video: nVidia GeForce GTX 460 Cyclone GDDR5 1GB
2 HDD: WD Black Cavilier 1TB and a Seagate 2TB
Windows Ultimate x64

started geting these random crashes about the same time my older HDD 120 IDE went out. Which is when the Seagate came in. I thought I had it narrowed to my ram when one chip would crash more frequently than the other, so I ran on 1 stick of 2GB 800 for a week much more stable. Only crashed twice. Untill I replaced them all with the new GSkill 8GB (4 x2GB) still crashing. I ran memtest on all the ram together and seperately and in diffrent slots, and comes out clean after several passes every time no errors. Also ran HDD scans which also came clean and checked all SATA cables and other connections. The pc will reboot and back to desktop with no problem. Only a message saying windows didnt poperly shut down.
Also sometimes it doesnt BSOD only hard freeze on whatever image happens to be there.

Typicaly crashes while looking through pictures, burning a cd, sitting idle @desktop or watching a movie. Usually does not crash while playing games though happens sometimes much less often. (Counter-Strike: Source, Dead Island, Battlefield 3, Team Fortress 2, Black Ops)

1-ASACPI.SYS

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Scroll down to the Utilities category, then scroll down to the "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).
Download and install it.
Go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers to check and make sure that the ASACPI.SYS file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (NOT 2005).

Ok so i updated that file, shortly after i got a new BSOD i havent ever seen before. PFN_LIST_CORRUPT, also last night after i updated the file i got the BSODs bad_pool_header and system_exception

*edit* these crashes last night were back to back, so to gain any kind of stability, i removed 3 of 4 ram chips, (around 11pm) which the pc then ran without a hitch for the rest of the night and all day untill i came home (at 5pm) i have since shut down and reinstalled the ram, and thats when i got the PFN error.

Just got a MEMORY_MANAGEMENT error. Here's all 4 of the dumps there are in my folder.
I got the error while loading a map on Battlefield 3 and while loading i was using IE9

Asacpi.sys has been updated.


These were caused by a memory corruption. Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.


1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

2-Driver verifier

I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out. If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation (an estimate on my part).

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Ive crashed twice since last post but it didnt make a dump.
I also just used Driver Genius Pro to update 25 drivers that were outdated.
When I checked on the USBAUDIO.sys it said that it was last modifyed on 10/20/11 at 10:29 pm so I suppose it was fairly up to date already?
Included in the programs found updates were 17 Intel chipset.
So I hope this helps, and thank you for your help sir(s).


*edit* well thats not going well ive crashed 6 times in just a few mins with no error code for most of them except a irql not less than or equal and it only made this 1 dump
i dont understand, could it be the motherboard? i find it hard to believe that all 6 sticks of ram are at fault. and it runs mostly stable at 2gb. 4 or more and the crashes start being frequent. or maybe a bad windows installation?

well i believe the fault to be hardware. the ram ports. ive switched out motherboards to a 780i and havent crashed at all. thanks for your help.
