Difficulty accessing a network shared printer [Win2000]

I am having difficulties accessing the network share to my Windows 2000 printer [printer attatched via USB to Win2000 computer, shared among all computers]. Both computers are behind a router, and are on the same workgroup. My Vista machine did not have any problems accessing this printer or authenticating to Windows 2000, but Windows 7 seems to. The problem is when I go to connect to the PC, I am prompted for a username and password, but upon entering a valid one, it does not connect and comes back as invalid.

I attempted to navigate to the share manually through the "add pritner" device, but this did not work either. [Giving //computername/printer]

Using Windows7 RC1, build 7100 and Windows 2000 SP4. No difficulty sharing or authenticating on the LAN with any other OS

Are you using HomeGroup or A business network group for your setup with the win7 computer. Win7 homegroup only plays well with other win7 computers

Check the Windows 7 Homegroup settings. I think that's where the root of the problem is.

I have already left my homegroup, one of the first things I did when I was having problems.

The problem might be that is it is trying to authenticate my credentials [remote username/password] on the machine with the domain as my computer name, meaning it might be searching for a network account of that username for that computer name, instead of logging into a local-user account [account used to log in on that computer normally] like I can on my XP box.

Any other thoughts?

Some additional details:

Using Windows7 RC1, build 7100 and Windows 2000 SP4 [as up to date as 2000 can be]. No difficulty sharing or authenticating on the LAN with any other OS, however my XP box does not prompt me for a password to authenticate myself before accessing the network share on the Windows 2000 machine.

All computers have unique computer names.

XP and 2000 can authenticate to the Windows 7 machine.

The Windows 7 machine connects to the XP machine [does not prompt for password], although it does prompt for Windows 2000 trying to connect to Windows XP machine [authenticates fine]. Perhaps I saved the XP password on the Windows 7 box without remembering, or the XP machine let it in without credentials for some other reason.

When typing in \\192.168.1.xxx\printername in Add Printer (under "Select a shared printer by name"), I get 0x0000052e error, which, if my Google skills are still up to snuff, is complaining about a bad username and password; meaning I need to auth myself to use the printer, which I can't seem to be able to do from any Network dialog, using credentials for a local administrative account on that computer.
