I was wondering how many posters here are either professional or enthusiast Photographers?

Tell us about your self in this area?

What equipment do you use?
What type of photography do you like to do?
How long have you been at it?
What do you like most about it?

What are your current challenges? What is holding you back?

I am a Canon DSLR shooter. I have most of the prime lens line up as well a a good selection of L glass zooms. For camera bodies I shoot a 5d MK11 and a 7D.

Currently I shoot mainly portrait photography. Right now most of my work is in the area of Nudes and body scapes.

I have been shooting for several years

Photography gives me a escape from the daily grind. At photoshoots I seldom think about work or my troubles. I love to create images and love even more when my work gets praised by other photographers.

Currenlty my biggest challenge is finding time and money to chase my dreams.
I have access to beautiful models great equipment. I just need more time.

Window 7 and my Intel I7 PC have been wonderful and raise the bar with Adobe CS4 performace!

So thats me.... tell us all abouot your creative self! Maybe even add some recent work?

I am a hobbyist, and I tend to like to do landscape, nature or candid people shots.

I use a Sony Alpha 200 with a couple of low end (by most standards) lenses that do fine for me.

My biggest challenge is figuring out how to use the camera as more than a really great point and shoot camera. ;)

I'm a very amateurish photographer, I use a Fujifilm S9600 transition camera (More than a compact less than an SLR). I've won a couple of local (very local!) competitions. It seams my talents lie in close ups of flowers and twilight shots.

Oli

P.S. as a note to anyone considering buying any Fujifilm camera, DON'T. The battery life is atrocious even without a flash and its standby time before it completely drains fresh batteries is 3 days.

If you still have your old AI-s or AF-d/AF-s lens for analog, should you look on a full frame as the D700...could be ecomomic for you...then slowly invest on a fully compatible digital lens.

What'd I really like is a full frame digital camera. However, If I don't get a full frame, I'll still use what I have for lens and compensate. Lens aren't an issue at this point.

Well depend how much you want to invest...D300s or D700 will be a good choice as you will be able to sell them back still for a good price.

35mm lens will be on D300s an 52,5mm lens...and so on.

Apperture will be prefered to be f:2 for an 35mm lens or f:1,4 for an 50mm Lens if using older lenses other than digital.

I'm seriously considering Nikon’s D700. Though I've been shooting since 1982, really since 1980, I had a Canon system which I sold off in 19890 and didn't get back into photography until 2001, when I purchased my current Nikon System. My basic Nikon lenses are....

70-300 AF 70-300 ED
80-200 mm ED 2.8
AF-S 24-85 mm ED 3.5-4.5 G
AF-S 17-35 mm ED 2.8D
AF-S 28-70mm ED 2.8
AF 50mm 1.8D

I mainly shoot B&W now, though I do like experimenting with both color and B&W in Photoshop. It's time to make the digital move now that film is becoming harder to find and get processed, I don't do my own processing for various reasons, and scanning film is very time consuming. In short, it's easier to deal with pure digital files nowadays, especially since digital photography has come a long way.

Now i understand better your choice for a full frame...D700 fit perfectly those AF-s lenses system. Plus those new AF-g lenses are more fragile than ever even if they're made for digital purposes, i rather keep AF-S 17-35 mm ED 2.8D ,AF-S 28-70mm ED 2.8 those as for a beginning.

I've been Nikonist for a long time either. Working mainly with the F90 & the X one...and F100 one...loved my FE-2.
i've used the D80 with the 18-70 AF-s also and my analog AF-d lenses mounted on too.
The result was quite stunning with AF-d short lenses.

I love photography but sometimes in life you have to broke yourself. I did it.
I've sold all my Nikon bodies, lenses and gears last year...

And surely when better times will comes again, will head on for a full frame digital, as D700 's coming an insterresting choice and back too, an F100 body. I better know now which lenses are the one i want to shoot with.

Nice Graphics on your website....!

That's the last shot i did with the D80...

Thanks. Nice shot there. I like B&W abstract. My avatar is one of my photos :)

My Nikon film bodies are an F100 and F5. I mainly shoot B&W or slide film. Though I haven't updated my site in a while the shutter bug is calling me so I'll be shooting some B&W here soon. Looking to do some abstract stuff so...

I shoot some sports and models. I get paid but don't do it for a living, yet.

Current Equipment is a Canon 40D and a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. I did own a Canon 50mm f/1.4 and a Canon 28-135IS lenses but sold them since I hardly used them after I got the Tamron. The 50mm was super sharp though, so I do miss having it but if I need one I can borrow my friends copy who lives a couple of blocks away from me.

Hmm since this is somewhat a photo thread. Anyone know of any good photography forums? Preferably for 35mm film? It's been about 10yrs since I was out of loop and want to get back into it.

Thanks synii78.

I paid $1500 (US) for my Nikon Coolscan 4000ED it back in 2003. Nikon since replaced it with the Coolscan 5000.

Canon also sold something similar to Nikon's Coolscans called Canoscans - Support - Film Scanner - CanoScan FS4000US - Canon USA Consumer Products

I just did a Google search for both the Nikon and Canon scanners and found that they are currently unavailable. However a review of Nikon's website only shows them having the Nikon Coolscan 9000ED, which, if you can find, is going for around $2000 (US).

I suspect that these will become obsolete as more and more people are going to digital cameras. However flatbed type film scanners are readily available, though the film scanning quality isn't up to the dedicated film scanners quality.

Anyone know of any good photography forums? Preferably for 35mm film? It's been about 10yrs since I was out of loop and want to get back into it.

These are pretty good sites with lots of people shooting both digital and film.
