Hi all,

What a nightmare!!!

I have just had an email from Digital River, that I will be getting a full refund for the Windows 7 upgrade within the next 30 days, for the problems caused. I haven't even emailed them to complain (yet!)

The email also states that if I ordered the backup cd's these would still be dispatched.

Happy days - sort of!

Thanks

J

What a nightmare i'm having!

Ok, I know some have cracked it, and others haven't, but I thought I would share this one with you.

I am running a MacBook Pro, and had Windows XP running under bootcamp. Downloaded from Digital River and had all the problems. Finally got it to boot, but wouldn't install due to unable to create folder.

Scrubbed bootcamp partition and tried using Parallels. So far so good, but not for long. Won't take my product key as I have the upgrade product 32bit, but at least it got that far.)

Now, reloading windows XP on bootcamp, and my XP disc has a scratch on it and can't be read

Ah well

Any help would be great.

Hope they follow through with the refund.

About 3 years ago, I bought a $75 program through them. It didn't do as advertised, so I asked for my CC to be refunded. I sent three emails with followup to the followups information and never heard back from them.

I hope you've figured out that you need to do an erase install using a bootable installer DVD to upgrade from XP. You can create this in XP from the files you downloaded. However, I haven't seen anyone have any success in booting the DVD in Boot Camp on the Mac. Apple says they will add support for Windows 7 in Boot Camp on Snow Leopard 'later this year'.
You may be able to do an 'in place' update in bootcamp if you're going from 32-bit Vista to 32-bit Win7, or 64-bit Vista to 64-bit Win7, but I wouldn't count on it.
If your XP CD is scratched and you can't reinstall, and you've already deleted the boot camp partition, for the moment you're stuffed. You may be able to install in Parallels/vmware (I have)/VirtualBox, and follow this guide to authorise without a previous installation:

(I've tested, works), but you'll still need a DVD installer - either genuine or made from the digitalriver downloads.

Wow, that's cool, I've already e-mailed digital river about the problems I've had and I haven't even gotten an automated response or anything. This refund better be something they offer to all the people who tried to get Windows 7 from them.

Call Digital River at 952-253-1234 for customer service. I told them I tried downloading it a bunch of times and that it gives me errors unpacking and I was done with it and wanted refund and they processed it without a hard time. My wait time was prob 5 min on hold. Was a pain to find the number was on some press release I googled up.

Will the Win7 Product key still work? I messed around with the digital river download for quite a while but then gave up and borrowed a dvd from someone else. However, I still used the product key that digital river sent me.

By now MS should have execs crawling all over that company, probably considering buying it to clean up the biggest Win7 release mess yet. I hope you all get free disks out of it.

I also had download problems (the destination file was not found on the server)
I mailed Digital River and they will give me my money back. Further more, they allowed me to keep the Windows 7 License that I got... de facto I got Win7 for free :)

I have been emailing back and forth with Digital River for a few days now. They told me that they were going to have to do some investigating before they canceled my order. I wrote back to them this morning explaining that I didn't want my order canceled, I just wanted a working download and that I knew I was not the only person having issues downloading from them. I had given up trying to download from DR and went to the campus computer lab and installed it there using my DR key.

I don't think I'll be purchasing anything from Digital River anytime soon!

I dealt with Digital River when I purchased MS Office 2007 through the "Ultimate Steal" program, and I had nothing but problems. They were awful to work with. This time is no different.

I contacted them for a refund and they said, no way! Here is their response:
"Thank you for ordering from the Windows 7 Student Offer online store.

We apologize for the difficulties you've encountered with your
downloaded product, we understand that you already installed your Windows 7 with the help from your friend's DVD and also using your product key, and that you are now requesting for a refund of your purchased product.

Please note that all products that are ordered through the Windows 7 Student Offer online store are ineligible for a refund. This is outlined in our refund policy, located at: Windows 7 US Online Store - Returns and Cancellations

Apparently, they are talking out both sides of their mouth.

I'd post the mail that I got from DR here, but its on german. Basically it says:

"Thank you for purchasing Windows 7.
As we understand you have had some download problems with your copy of Windows 7. Therefore we will issue a full refund. Please allow 5-7 workdays for refund to be seen on your Credit Card bill.
You can of course keep your Windows 7 CD key and we hope that you enjoy using the new OS."
