years ago, i set up an OU in AD that contains shortcuts to various shares on various servers. instead of having 10+ shortcut icons on their desktops, my w2k users could access all network shortcuts from one shortcut. plus, when the location of a share moves to a different server, i don't have to delete old shortcuts and create new ones on 30+ desktops.

in xp, the directory icon went away so i couldn't create a shortcut to the OU. i discovered copying the dsfolder.dll icon to xp fixed the problem.

can a desktop shortcut to an OU be achieved in w7? i've had no luck.

thank you. i have done that install. that allows a person to make changes in AD. instead i'm looking for the ability to create a shortcut to an existing OU.

if you look at the screenshot i posted above, you'll see an icon that says "Network Shares". when you double click that icon, it opens the window you see which is located at ntds://cp.dom/Network Shares which is basically ntds://(domain)/(ou)

i can't make windows 7 recognize this protocol. xp doesn't recognize it by default, but using the win2k dsfolder.dll file to overwirite the one that comes with xp, you can make xp open an OU.

does anyone know how to make win7 open an OU in AD? thanks
