Disable remembering folder view settings

Hi,
I am trying to set a default view for all folders, such that when I change the view in an explorer window, it will only take effect for the current explorer window, and will not be saved. Or even better, let me choose when I want to save a view setting as default for the current folder. I do not want to keep resetting my folder view. In Windows 98/XP it was possible. Thanks.

Hi Brink, I have already done my own research and gave up - and I am not an inexperienced user of Windows (albeit only 98/XP until recently). "Folder View - Set a default for All Folders" just sets all folders to have the same default template, but does not disable customization of folders themselves, and individual folder settings are still saved.

As far as I know, there's not a way to not have Windows remember individual folder settings as they are made. By setting a default for all folders, it will also disable Automatic Folder Type Discovery though.

The only thing I can think of is to use a 3rd party file management program like FreeCommander that may allow you to do this in that program instead.

OK... Seems that Windows just got even less customizable... Thanks anyway. How do I mark the thread as permanently unsolvable?
