Solved Disabling Wireless Connections for Non Administrators

Greetings Forum,

I'd like to disable connecting to Wireless networks or rogue wireless networks when logged onto a non administrator account. Is this possible? I am not connecting to a domain. Thanks.

FYI, if the computer was connected to a wireless network using an administrator account, the computer can persist that connection under any user logged in, but the non administrator cannot change connection properties, connecting to other networks.

Windows does not allow that kind of control unless you are connected to a domain.

There is a group Policy "the configuration of wireless settings using Windows Connect Now (WCN)" which may give you some control - applying this policy to the non administrator groups should allow you to prevent access to wireless settings

Have not used it myself so cannot say if it does what you need but may be worth a look

Barman, that group policy is for domain connected computers only. Plus, WCN is used to store wireless configurations on a flash drive, to allow using those settings on another computer.

Just as an update, since this is not possible, I've elected to make it harder for a non administrator to make changes to the wireless settings by removing the network icon in the system tray, and disabling access to the Networking tools on the desktop and control panel.
