I looked at your specs and you should re running it on the highest settings:D

Anyhow I had to run it in Vista SP1 Compatibility and administrator when I installed it

Windows 7 hits RTM im bit disappointed no its not beacuse of its features but the craze
it builds every time leak happens for new builds will be missing now!!!;)

I really like the aero peak in it im Windows user who moved directly from xp to windows 7!!!
so aero and now aero peak was new to me!!!
i can say windows make to feel like its light works stable with less than 1GB RAM i tired it myself!!!

one thing i like the most in windows 7 is that im a user who likes to reinstall once in a 2 months and in windows 7 i dont have to install additional drivers for the devices as windows 7 got all drivers

now i reinstall more often than i did previously!!!

i like new aero themes in windows 7!!!

im pretty much satisfied with win 7 rtm!!!:)

This RTM Version (16385) found all of my devices successfully without fail. I even gotten rid of my dual boot with Vista Ultimate. I am now just using Windows 7 RTM all the time. I even got a friend to install it on his PC, who was afraid because he was so used to having Windows XP (SP2). Now he's glad that I talked him into it and having loads of fun.

Hello,

I really like the added bits and bobs I find it helps using the computer much more efficient.
However with the power and knowledge base microsoft control I expected big gains in performance when using Windows 7 on the same hardware as windows Vista sp2. I haven't experienced any noticeable improvements in performance in the few applications I have been testing compared with Vista sp2.
I don't know much about the way the OS's are programmed but I can't help but feel Windows 7 is Vista sp2 with a different Jacket on.

That's because it is...

...Vista R2. The core underpinnings of the OS are relatively unchanged. They tweaked it a bit so that it loads faster and scales a bit better across multiple cores, but otherwise, its linear performance is within 3-5% of Vista's. However, they have made changes to how it functions at runtime, especially the behavior of background services like indexing and superfetch.

That, plus some minor adjustments to the UI threading/prioritizing of window animations, makes the OS "feel" more responsive. I run it daily on an Atom-based Netbook (HP Mini 2140) with 2GB and it's quite smooth. And on my quad-core development workstation (W700ds) it really flies - but then again, so did Vista/XP, so... :D

Note: You can read more about Windows 7 vs. Vista at InfoWorld.

Bought the Dell secondhand for cheap and upgraded cpu, vga, ram, soundcard, psu and HDD's.
Since "Windows" will not remember positions, they should re-name it "Window".
I'm still totaly stumped why they would implement this.

Windows statusbar is more nerfed then in Vista.

Those butt ugly white system tray icons look like ass! If this trend continues, all icons will be white. I hope someone makes a hacked exploer with true color tray icons.

What do you mean windows doesn't remember positions? They always seem to remember the last state they were in on my system.

Windows statusbar is more nerfed than Vista? I assume you mean the taskbar, and you can customize it by right clicking on it >properties

White system tray icons can be hidden or turned off if you don't want to look at them.

My Thoughts:
I think Microsoft nailed it this time around. So far it has been rock solid with no soft/hardware compatibility issues, great performance, and comfortable, efficient UI:D

As far as cosmetics.....I wish Microsoft would of given options to change folder colors...I mean c'mon it's 2009, manilla folders were meant to be left in file cabinets a century ago.I guess I can install Iconpackager AGAIN:mad:

Guess most people don't even notice the window position bug. And yes I did buy that software that fixes it.

I don't mean the windows taskbar.

I should not have to turn off icons just because they are ugly. It's a really stupid design.

Maybe I am just different

In reading this thread, I find that my issues tend to be very different than the majority.

First let me say that I have completely switched everything to W7. I had a number of machines (laptop, old desktops) that refused to work with Vista (mostly driver problems) that work really well with W7. My main production machine ran Vista SP2 for 62 days without restarting. I have switched to W7 - and have no desire to go back.

Other people seem to really like the startup and shut down time improvements. For me, this is completely irrevelant. I put the machine to sleep. Sleep power draw is about 4W. wakeup between 1 and 3 sec.

UAC. It seems that people have a big issue with this. For me, I get UAC screens when I install or unistall something. In daily operation or things I do routinely, I virtually never get them.

My issues:

Media center does not always recover well from sleep - especially if it was playing a video that was paused.

Occaisional graphics issues. Pixels sometimes get left behind when I move a window. Seems to occur more frequently when the machine is using a lot of RAM. Lowish free ram levels.

Autorefresh of windows explorer does not work when there is low levels of ram available.

There seems to be some kind of memory leak. Memory used tends to stay above 5G, once more than 5G has been used. (I do lots of memory intensive work). Hapens with SPSS, Mathematic, SQL server, Access, Photoshop .... so I think it may be an OS issue.

Offine files seem to work 50% of the time.

Lots of apps choke on homegroup and or libraries.

File sharing has issues (shared with {s-150-......} comes to mind.

Intermittant wake problems when running in AHCI mode ...

Inconsistent installs. I have had a couple of times where I did a clean install, and things did not seem quite right. BSODs, slow, jumpy graphics, that were cured by a clean reinstall (from the same DVD). Not a DVD player issue as happened on 4 different machines.

In writing this list, I think I should not like W7. However, I love it. Just fix the bugs!

Mark

don't know about the final, still on 7229 64bits.

But I love the stability, truly rock solid.

Major reason for upgrade to Win7 is that it's the first OS that can play a multitude of audio and midi tracks, and loads of vsti's without crackling in the sound, and without having to freeze tracks.

I can even run my ASIO driver at 5ms instead of the 20ms I had to use in both XP and Vista.

Further more I love the libraries. I have about 6 terrabytes of data divided over several disks, and in the libraries I can make several different selections of what I want to see. Brilliant.

I hated Vista's shell for having hidden the most basic options in the weirdest places.
Windows 7 shell makes a lot more sense again, although it could have been a bit better. There are still some option that belong together that are too much spread.

The copying from USB to HDD is a major improvement and finally works as fast as it did under XP. (Vista would make a big mess of it).

One particular thing that is a lot improved is the "save to" dialog.
Vista would crop your locations so much you always needed to stretch the dialog so you could see the folders on the left pane.
In windows 7 this is 100 times better. (although not as good as XP)

I love the little tweak they did on the Startbutton. you can now select what item you want to display. (ie. standby, restart, shutdown etc.)
I've put mine to standby since I almost never reboot.

Windows 7 gives me a lot less reasons to reboot than Vista anyway.

I love the way they tweaked down UAC. It only pops up when you want to do something drastic.
More people will be leaving it on now.

I love the way the progress bar is shown in the taskbar, enabling you to see the progress immediately without having to click anything.

I feel Windows 7 will save you a couple of million (double)clicks a year, compared to Vista and XP, thus making it less prone to "repetitive strain injury".

There are so many subtle improvements it's impossible to name them all.

Windows 7 is best OS ever imho.

Well, i decided to hold out, and have finalyl come round to installing the RTM on my machine Ultimate X64 By the way.

Well, after i got drivers installed, done a few service tweaks, removed uneccesary startup programs etc.

Its Brilliant!

At idle its using 17-20% RAM, which under task manager states 750MB-ish. Amazing!

Tried converting a few vids in convertx, FPS encoding seems to be higher too actually.

Overall, I'm impressed, :)

The reason an icon on the task bar turn white is to indicate which one is currently the active window. The clear pane icon indicates open but inactive. Makes perfect sense to me. Best UI yet.
