Anyone have issues with saving and then upon exiting game and coming back in the game crashes loading the auto save? It doesnt matter if i save and load that manually. My game now crashes. 16 hours in. On the main quest I have to confront benny. So, not too far in on the single player quest. With and without the update this happens.

Anyways the broken/missing saves issue seems to be fixed with is this fix.... ATTENTION! SAVES ARENT MISSING! - Bethesda Softworks Forums

What worked for me....

The above fix, than open steam, right click the game's exe, Properties, click Local Files, click Verify Integrity of Game Cache... Steam may or may not download some files/updates, but once that's done if steam doesn't relaunch, relaunch steam, check save system.

Since doing this, I've had no more issues with the save/continue system. Knock on wood.

Outside of that, the microstuttering is still there, and I've only had one crash thus far but things seems to be running smooth. Again, knock on wood

@ MY5T and holo88, yeah the game does feel like a FO3 expansion, but that's a good thing as not much has changed to spoil game play. Good game thus far though.

For those looking to tweak Fallout: New Vegas....

Update: Tweaking Fallout: New Vegas is similar to tweaking Fallout 3, so see the Advanced Tweaking section of the Fallout 3 Tweak Guide. Note that tweaks which would normally go into the Fallout.ini file must be made in Fallout_default.ini found under the \Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas directory.

As a side note... has anyone noticed any performance difference with the new ATI Catalyst 10.10 drivers?

I'm about to update my drivers with these but I only have a single 4890 so I don't know If I'll see any difference.

its the same as Fallout 3 (Bugs and all!!!!) just a new flavor and Gun mods....... but its still a good game for fun!!! for when im not playing FFXIV or TF2

Well updating my drivers seems to have had no affect on this game one way or another. So all I can say is at least there are no negative issues wih the new drivers, and.... no improvements... the microstuttering is still present. I'm currently running a single ATI HD4890.

That's it for my driver experience.

i haven't tried the new gfx drivers yet - didn't seem to be anything specific to this game in the release notes - luckily i don't seem to experience this microstuttering with my 4890 - maybe because of a mod (see below.)

i'm really enjoying the game so far, but haven't really progressed that much, as i started again after doing something silly.

as others have noticed, it looks and feels very very similar to fallout 3 - for some reason i was expecting a whole new game with a whole new engine etc. something's changed though, as fallout 3 used to crash like crazy for me under win 7, and i kept an xp partition just for that one game! so far, this game has behaved itself in the crash department.

money's a bit tight, and i was torn between this or moh - no regrets so far!

i've found this page listing 5 'essential' mods. i used to mod the hell out of fallout 3, and some of these look good.

top 3:

• d3d9 awesome performance fix - claims to 'increase framerates across the board' - tried it and it seems to work for me. you just download a 100k d3d9.dll file and stick it in your game folder. for some reason, it make your gfx card show as a 7900 in the gfx options and resets the settings. i'm playing fully maxed out at 1920x1080 and things are smooth!
• MTUI - changes UI for high-res monitors so you don't have to scroll so much in pip-boy or conversation menus.
• civil defense radio - adds a new radio station to your pipboy with some very well chosen tracks and dj announcements.

i like them all - and they are easily uninstallable in case of problems - what you got to lose?

just try them one at a time, rather than installing loads at once, that way you can appreciate each one and decide if you want to keep it.

have fun now, and don't get hurt too bad out there in those wildlands.

i'm off to do some exploring - i may be some time...

Thanks for the info and tips for the mods. I typically don't mod my games on first play through as I like to play as the designers intended. Afterwards, if I do a second play through, then I'll try mods. That's me though.

As for crashes, I've only had one thus far and that was before the patches.

As for my progress, I'm off to a slow start as I too was expecting something different but the game just gives me that "I’ve been here before" feeling.

Yeah I know there are some changes, but it hasn't translated into a whole new gaming experience as far as I’m concerned.

Unfortunately I had the same feeling playing Bioshock 2, and in the end.... meh. Hopefully this won't happen with New Vegas.

Now I'll just have to see what the rest of the wasteland has to offer :shock:

Been pretty good for me so far. Had one initial crash about a minute after startup of the game at first caused by HsSrv.dll. After that, haven't had any crashes, any save problems, but it's after the patches. Sluggish in some parts around Prima, yeah and the occasional graphical glitches here and there. Overall not bad so far though. Going to try these new nvidia 260.99 WHQL that just came out today with fix for this game in it.

Yeah I had the same slowdowns around Primm as well, but I also notice that walking around in open areas makes the game microstutter, especially when distant areas/buildings/foliage comes into focus.

The game seems to have a problem when rendering distant images.

I usually play through once w/out mods myself.

With the exception of DarnUI. Which is still a WIP. This, IMHO, is a must have have for the PC version and how FO3,FONV, and Oblivion should have been in the first place.

As far as the .dll fix, Im a bit cautious about that one. Isn't there already a DX9 file on our systems we can use instead?

I too get the stutter on occasion. But that has been present, at least for me, in Oblivion and FO3 as well. I think its the nature of the engine.
That or a ATI issue w/the engine, Im not sure.

My game is on a Vertex SSD as well, so you'd think that would solve some of the hitching/stuttering issues but it doesnt. it helps overall, yes, but not for that stutter issue.


For those curious about other methods, The best fix Ive found is the stutter remover plug-in for FOSE.
Unfortunatly, it isn't out yet for NV and will likely be after Bethseda gets the game stable.

Since it requires STEAMS co-operation to mod the encrypted executable, which they will gladly help with.
But each patch requires a new update, so might be a while.


I think at, or around the area or Primm --- little after, the game really started getting a lot better for me (enjoyment wise)
I'm running around w/Cass now and she has some funny banter in fights at times



I read this on the official forums and it helped some for me.
Lowering the Water Multisampling to Low, Relections Medium helped.
Shadows, Actually turning these up helps, Oddly. Max Shadows, High Quality, but Medium Filtering.

Although the stutter is still there, it seems to be a bit better.

gfwl is crap it was £5 cheaper on disc but I went with steam they do offer auto updates but i tend not to sign into gfwl

So, it's about time I think to be discussing about the fun side of Fallout New Vegas.

I'm majoring my stats and perks to be a sniper sort, I have the four eyes "perk", I'm wearing glasses, and a first recon beret, giving me a bonus of +4 perception.

I'm wearing a "space suit", hilarious huh? Well, it only weighs 5, and provides me 10 DT, AND +40 rad resistance. Jealous?

Also, I have a hunting rifle outfitted with a scope, so I get plenty of exploding heads from 40 yards and this warm satisfaction of a clean head-shot. I also have a sniper companion named Boone. He's awesome, carries a lot of stuff too.
