Never had this problem before but i've tested all drives and they are working fine, checked cables.
I go into the BIOS and nothing is selected to boot up so i check the box for the drive...press enter and exit.
I reboot and and it's fine but when i shut down it goes back to no selection...any ideas please?

Possible dead CMOS battery.

Are other settings staying the way you configured them or is everything reverting back to default?

Another indicator of a bad CMOS battery would be the time and date. If that messes it is possible secure websites won't work.

Hi Zordana,

I agree with F22 Simpilot, it does sound initially very much like the CMOS battery.

I hope this helps!

Sad to say new battery didn't make any difference. I've checked all the leads and given it a good clean with the compressed air but nothing i do seems to work. :*(

Does BIOS need to be updated? Your board may be going out. What model is it?

I tried to update the BIOS but the programme i paid money for didn't work. I emailed Phoenix technologies to get the update but they haven't answered me i'm afraid.
I went to another site and stupidly believed they were there to help. I got a link, downloaded it and bang...wrecked my computer installing 563 worms and all sorts now i cannot even clean the compute. I need to do first before i can do anything else.

I can get into the PC by pressing ESC and then manually selecting the drive but I cannot boot into safe mode to clean it because of the disk failure unless someone knows how to do that, so i haven't a clue what to do next...please don't say format the C drive. *(

Correction to last reply.
I managed to get into safe mode and clean up the thousand pieces of 'muckwear', (not sure what else to call it without swearing) but i am no nearer to solving the boot problem.

Could the registry entry to boot up be wrong...i'm just out of ideas.
Still no reply from Phoenix Tech about the update for the BIOS, is there somewhere else i can go to get that update please?

Hi Zordana,

Which clock was wrong - BIOS or System.
As for your Bios update that would depend on whether your system is OEM or Custom
OEM - goto, Dell etc, homepage driver update from there
Custom - goto Board maker Gigabyte etc.

Oh for god's sake. You don't download a BIOS form some website. Always the motherboard manufacturer website.
