'Action Center ' tells me that my disk has errors. So I try to schedule Disk Check on my C: drive by going to Computer-> Right Click on C: -> go to properties -> Tools -> Error Checking -> Check now ->select both Disk options (1. Automatically Fix file system errors 2. Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors). Of course, it tells me that the disk is in use and asks me if I would like to check for disk errors the next time I start my computer. I click yes.

BUT, it never runs on restart!

And yes, my account is an administrator account. I have also tried doing the same by opening command prompt as admin, and using syscheck C: /f. Same result. Please help!

Thanks & sorry - I did try that... I did try chkdsk, not syscheck! I typed that in by mistake.

Hello!

Please try step three here: Chkdsk will Not Run at Startup in Vista - Vista Forums

Thanks!

Richard

P.S. Step one is good, but may not be safe with a possible (although unlikely) malware infection. I am not going to recommend step one without the go ahead of Carolyn. The reason for this is that if there is malware on board, and it blocks Safe Mode, and you use this method, your computer will keep trying to boot into Safe Mode, fail, and not startup. Although it should be fine without selecting "Make Permanent", I am not going to risk it.
