Disk Failure with new Hard drive

Hey!, im new sorry =(
But i recently bought a WD 640 HDD to replace my old 100 GB seagate and i ran into trouble. i installed or thought i installed window 7 on the new HD (most likely did) while the old Harddrive was still connected to my case which had window 7 already. But when i decided to take out the old harddrive and i boot up my system all i get is "Disk failure, Boot something insert system disk and press enter". Even when i do insert my windows 7 disk it still does not work. it just brings me to the upgrade/install windows 7 pro screen and i do not want to reformat. But if i have to i would. So how would i be able to run my computer without the old hardrrive? Thank YOUO!

Win 7 probably installed the boot files in a hidden partition on the other drive. You can do a repair install from the win 7 boot dvd to fix that.

If you took the old hard drive out...it isn't going to be bootable. If you only have the new hard drive in, then you are doing it right. Boot from the DVD, and install.

Probably the simplest and easiest is to simply:
1. Remove the old disk,
2. Install Win 7 on your new disk just as if you had never installed onto it.
Thw Win 7 install is so much quicker than Vista that you are looking at a short time.
3. After verifying that all is ok, then you can reconnect the old.

And yes a "repair" will definitely work, I just feel that easiest is to simply install again.

Ah, now I see the problem. Yes, the old drive probably got the boot files, which is why any install guide you'll read would instruct you to remove all other drives except the one you want Windows 7 installed on. If it was me, I'd just pull the old drive, do a clean install to the new 640 GB, and then pop in the old drive to pull off any data you might need.
