I generated a system repair disk for my W7 64 bit notebook. I also generated a system image on an external USB drive.

I have a virgin HDD that I wish to install the system image on. I go through the startup using the repair disk and with the USB drive connected. The system image is found but it is identified as being on C: drive of a computer with my computer's name.

The image installation fails with a message "The system image restore failed. No disk that can be used for recovering the system disk can be found."

The error instruction suggested I disconnect the USB drive, reboot and re-attach the USB drive. I did so with similar results.

Anyone with suggestions? Thanks

Do you have any OS about WinPE which include a ghost software? You could run it with CD-Rom or U Disk. It will not take the C:
I had used it and copy the image from removable hard disk to local hard disk then recovery the OS.
