Disk Imaging

Now that I have my system up and running again, I would like to make an image of my hard drive. I have Acronis True Image 10 for win 7. I have 640 g hd. I am using only 30 g of it on 1 partition of 300 g and only 15 g on the other 300g partition. What do I use as media to put this image on. I have blank DVDs available.

The best place is an external hard drive
second best is flash drive, if that can be done with acronis
third is dvd

Worst is the same hard drive that you are copying. If you havd HD failure, you lose everything. Merry Christmas

Just came back with another thought. In addition to acronis, make a system image with the appl in cluded with the OS and store that on your hard drive. You have 2 safety nets.

I have mine on 3
dvd 4.75 gb each

On start up it says may take 4. I have 45 gb used on my hard drive.

You said TI 10 for Windows 7, but that version is not compatible with W7. When I tried to install it, the OS popped a dialog and blocked the installation. I think that I have read where some people have used TI 11, but as far as I know, only TI 2010 is specially stated to be compatible with W7.

Honestly, I would simply use Windows 7's own imaging tool. It's really pretty good. It's all most people need.

I love using it. I have restored many times and it works great!

Weird...I have had problems with other imaging tools but never Windows 7 or Vista Ultimate's tools. They don't have as many features but seem to work every time. (probably user error on my part)

TI 11 works ok.

It wouldn't be my first choice - but if you already have a copy - may as well use it.

You can get a crippled version of TI 11 free d/l if you have Seagate/maxtor drives from the Seagate website.

Manual partition imaging and restore, plus drive/partition copy - no scheduling / differential - but it's better than nothing.

If you have WD drive - you can get their version.

I already have a copy of Paragon 2010 Free, but when I had it installed, I had a problem using TI 2010. The problem may not have had anything to do with Paragon, but after uninstalling both of them and reinstalling TI 2010, it worked as it should. I have wanted to reinstall Paragon, but fear that the two wouldn't get along together.

Didn't cause me any problems - I used TI 11 - which may be a little different ( uninstalled it now as I prefer Paragon ).

You might be getting a conflict - not sure why, as long as you aren't using them at the same time.

There is newer build of DB10/BR 2010 - been out a few weeks - .dll10505.

No, no one said that. And the one question raised was quickly answered. My post was/is purely informational.

As for the older products, if you listen to Acronis, the only one that works for Windows 7 is ATI 2010. But other’s have stated that ATI 10 and ATI Home 2009, both of which I have but haven’t installed, works on 7

There is/was a conspiracy theory over at Acronis' forums that some of the older products was crippled intentionally via a patch by Acronis to "force" people into purchasing ATI 2010. I'm not saying this was/is true, but it was put out there.

At any rate my post wasn't meant to berate.
