I'm trying to change my external hard drive from 'NTFS' to 'FAT32'.

I was following a guide on WikiHow, and the guide told me to delete the external hard drive's partition, and then recreate the partition for my external hard drive.

I deleted my external hard drive's partition, and I'm trying to recreate the partition, but I cannot find out how to do so. When I deleted my external hard drive's partition, it disappeared, so there's I cannot easily recreate a partition. Can someone help me, please?

Thanks :)

Additional Information
  • My external hard drive is a 'My Passport Essential'; it holds 500GB of space.
  • My external hard drive was listed as a 'G' drive on my computer.
  • I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit

Does the drive show up in Disk management if you unplug it and then plug it back in?
If it does can you post a screen shot of your disc management.

Alright, I just watched the tutorial, and it did not help, unfortunately. The tutorial based its usefulness upon the notion that the drive was still visible and had unallocated space; this is not my case.

I deleted the partition for my external hard drive, and once I did this the drive, partition, etc. for the external hard drive disappeared. I can see the external hard drive on my computer, but it does not have an assigned drive or a partition.

This is where I need help - I want to make the external hard drive appear in 'Disk Management', but I need some help :)

In order to locate my external hard drive, I must go to 'Devices and Printers'. Once I have found my external hard drive, I can choose to edit the properties of the device functions, as seen in the picture below. I have tried to populate the external hard drive, but every time I do, it reverts back to having no allocated or unallocated space.

Hello,

Go to Disk Management there you might find unallocated space Right Click on it and assign a Drive Letter. Then you might have an option to create Partition. Go ahead and try creating a Partition. See ig that fixes it. Check this article as a reference Troubleshooting Disk Management

Hope this helps,
Captain

Alright, I got it working finally: I did a hard boot, plugged the bugger in, and it appeared as unallocated space. Sometimes I just want to kill Windows... I need a Mac :P
