Does disk manger only shrinks a drive to so much? I have a 1tb. I want to shrink the c partition down to 200 or 300 gb. Disk manger will only shrink the drive down to 550gb.

You would have to use the Partition Wizard Bootable Disk (PWBD) to get a better shrink, while the OS isn't running.


Be sure to use the PWBD and not the installed version; download the PWBD ISO file from this link and burn the ISO to CD then boot the CD to make the changes.

Thanks for the links. I'm partitioning the drive with the boot cd as I write this.

Quick question and a little off topic but, I noticed this does formating too. Is this a ok to use for formating or is gparted better?

If you have the opportunity I would use Windows to do the create and format, after the initial shrink with the PWBD.

Sorry my question wasn't clear.

I have a hard drive that I need to do a full clean up on, reformatting. Does this program do full clean up or does it do just a basic format?

Running the clean all in Step One of the SSD / HDD tutorial posted above will over-write every sector of the HDD with zeroes effectively cleaning all data from the HDD / SSD, then use one of the methods listed in Step Two to create and format a partition(s) to install Windows 7 to.

   Note

• Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
• If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

PW has a drive wipe function if you are going to dispose of the drive or sell it.

Otherwise, it is a waste of time doing that.

Regular format is fine - you can use PW or Disk Management for formatting.
