Disk Read Error on start up

I have a 1TB Seagate external drive connected to my computer. When I start the computer I get a Disk Read Error. If I disconnect the external drive, Windows 7 loads properly. Apparently, my system is trying to load Windows from the external drive.

So, how can I get my computer to ignore the external hard drive at start up and load Windows from my C drive (as it always did on my old XP machine)?

What is your Boot Table in your BIOS? if External HDD is set above Internal HDD that may be your Issue also have you tried Deleting the Partition and Formatting it

+1 on changing the Boot Order in the BIOS as a temporary fix. Move "USB Devices" to boot after the HDD.

You should post a screen shot of Disk Management with the external connected that we can look at.

Do you have an OS installed on the external drive?

There is no OS on my external drive.

I'm not technically advanced, so I don't know how to configure the bios or boot menu. I'm not even sure what the disk manager is.

After my last post I did a little digging around in the bios setup and was able to figure out what was wrong. For whatever reason, it seems that everytime I plugged in the external hard drive it would be chosen as the device to boot from. I disabled it in the boot menu, and now everything appears to be working correctly.
