Disk stops spinning causing BSOD

I have a curious problem which appeared recently and after trying everything I need to ask for help. My hard disk stops spinning after some time (varies) and causes all programs to stop, causing at the end BSOD.

Messages vary, sometimes nothing, sometimes 0x0000007A, sometimes 0x0000007F. The only common thing is that the dump files don't get written (as the disk is "dead") and that if I press the Reset button, the computer cannot restart as it says that Boot volume is not available. Once I turn off the PC completely and it restarts, everything is fine - for some time...

I have tried shutting down all power saving functions, running a small program that writes a file every 1 min to the disk in the hope of preventing it from shutting down, but nothing helps.

The issue first appeared when the computer was going into sleep state, but since shutting down all power saving functions the problem remains. If I constantly work on my PC it seems the problem is not there - but if I start watching a YouTube video and forget to do whatever else on my PC, the disk stops and all the programs stop as well. YouTube video continues running for a few minutes (whatever is buffered) and then dies.

Can anyone shed any info on how to resolve this?
Thanks!!
