What kind of drive do you have in your laptop? Is this a new drive, or did it previously have Windows installed on it and running in your laptop? If it is a new drive, is it the same type (IDE/SATA) as your previous drive? Do you have AHCI/SATA or IDE set in your BIOS?

I've had that happen before. Sounds like the partition table is corrupted. You can pull out the drive and slave it into another computer and try to repair the partition table, or you can use an external partition application (gparted, partition tool, etc) to delete the entire partition table - then you should be able to install Windows 7 again.

Hello mickaboy72, welcome to Seven Forums!

Yes there is, have a look at Option Three of this tutorial at the link below for wipe secure erase info.
First download the Partition Wizard Bootable Disk (PWBD) ISO file to the desktop, be sure to get the PWBD and not the installed version; scroll down to see the download link for the Bootable CD ISO file at this link below.
Then use ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD, at no greater than 4x speed with a verify; it was designed for use and works best from a CD rather than a DVD; then boot the created CD to make the changes, it doesn't take any input from the user to setup, just relax and let it load.
